应 texlive 2008 所需， 已经改为使用 xetex 编译的版本，zhspacing 作中文设置。

是 pdf 文件亂碼么? 我的字體都已經嵌入了.

如果是源文件亂碼, 請用支持GBK的編輯器打開.

Good job! Well done!

Just quickly gone thru the pdf file (compiled at the local machine) and a few suggestions:

1) Page 54, the subsection title ("Section 3.6 xxx") is wongly indented? (also check the paragraph above and below it). There seems to be other such instances (e.g., Sec 4.7 section title and the paragraphs within).

2) Page 73, overfull box around "\sectionmark, \subsectionmark"

3) Contents: IMHO, some of the stuffs are really out-of-dated or depreciated or unimportant, e.g., Sec 5.2 the picture environment. I won't recommend beginners to invest their  precious time on this only to find that there are so many limitations. A lot of stuffs on using other languages, e.g., German, etc., probably can be removed or put to the appendix. Sec 5.3 Xy-pic: Xy-pic is powerful, but probably too powerful (and cryptic) to be included.

the question is: are we allowed to modify or at least rearrange the contents? (any licence issues?)

The way we chinese people read such technical documents is quite different from western people. Some rearrangement might help chinese readers to kickstart their learning more easily. In the prelogue (page vii), it was written "... (It is important to read chapters in that order ..." and I don't think this is a sensible recommendation, esp. given that there are lots of "unnecessary" stuffs in the book now (e.g., xy-pic)

4) I know that it is not good to typeset too many characters in a line, but given that we can save lots of trees by doing that, can we opt to increase the textwidth (which is a lesser evil)?

我看了看78页,为什么header当中的专业功能是伪粗呢?
整个页面的第一段非常混乱,望检查.

80页,METAPOST缺字符.

5.2 picture环境的空白也太多了....

对于helene的几条建议,我表示赞同.

1 LaTeX的picture环境确实不该再仔细描述了.当年使用picture环境,是因为它的这些定义,不超出原先TeX所能够做的范围,所以,任意的driver都是支持的.而现在,有了更好的例如tikz, metapost之类的东西,不该建议用户依然使用这些.
2 多国语言语言的描述明显脱离实际,我认为删去更好.加入中文的基本内容.既然翻译成中文版,就该让更多的中国用户受惠.
3 相比于其他的教程,比如ltxpremier之类,lshort作者的水平本身就比较幼稚,而且对于版面控制的能力缺乏认识.可以说lshort对于字体选择,版式设计方面,都做的不够.中文版不需要照搬.
4 我先前不太赞同再次组织那么大型的翻译lshort的工作,lshort选材,完整性,科学性有限,不太建议初学者学习.相反如果学会自己执笔写些东西,或者翻译些类似india group的东西,可能效果更好.如果能够自己象样地写出几本哪怕是很简单的manual,可能会比此更为成功,说不定其他语种的用户也会来翻译我们的作品,这个才是中文组织能够带给其他用户组织最好的礼物,也是走向国际化的最重要的标志.现在版上能够轻松驾驭LaTeX, ConTeXt的人不少,很多也直接或者间接地参加过一些TeX引擎,格式,宏包的开发,我们中文用户的实力并不弱,完全可以写出非常深入浅出的东西.为什么一定要跟在别人后面,老老实实翻译别人的东西呢?

这个不关嵌入的事.你需要给dvi driver相关的to unicode指令.
当然使用dvipdfmx是最直接了当的方式.
